Your Health Information
HIPAA Notice
Last updated October 12, 2026
The short version. Democura is not yet providing health care or handling anyone's health information. Our tools are tested only with made-up records. Before any real health information is involved, we will publish a full Notice of Privacy Practices here and put the protections described below in place.
Where Democura Stands Today
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protects health information held by health plans, health care providers and the businesses that work for them. Democura is not yet offering health care, health plans or services to patients or practices, and it does not currently create, receive, store or send protected health information.
The tools we are building for practices, such as the Democura Reader and Check In with Democura, are tested only with synthetic records that describe no real person. Coverage Check never asks for a name, date of birth or member number.
This website does not ask for health information. Atlas, our AI agent, and Hippocrates, our AI advisor, are not medical services, and both will ask you not to share health details. See our Privacy Policy for what the site does and does not collect.
Two Roles, Two Sets Of Rules
Democura plans to work in two ways, and the law treats them differently:
- For practices. When Democura handles health information on behalf of a doctor's office, clinic or research site, it acts as that practice's business associate under HIPAA. A signed business associate agreement will be in place first, and the practice's own Notice of Privacy Practices will continue to apply to you.
- For you. A health record you keep and control yourself may fall outside HIPAA. Where it does, other protections still apply, including the Federal Trade Commission's Health Breach Notification Rule and state health privacy laws. We will tell you plainly which rules cover each Democura service before you use it.
Before We Handle Any Health Information
Trust is one of the four things Democura is built on. Before any real health information is collected, we will:
- Publish a Notice of Privacy Practices on this page that explains how your health information may be used and shared, and your rights over it.
- Describe your rights in plain language, including the right to see and get a copy of your records, to ask for corrections, to learn who your information has been shared with, and to file a complaint.
- Keep health information in a separate, protected environment, apart from this website and its systems.
- Sign business associate agreements wherever Democura works on behalf of a covered entity, and require the same of every vendor that touches health information, including any AI service.
- Name a privacy officer you can contact directly.
Please Do Not Send Us Health Information
Until that notice is published, please do not email us medical records, test results, insurance details or other health information, and please keep them out of our AI chats. Email is not a secure way to share them, and we have no need for them yet. If you send something by mistake, we will delete it on request.
Your Rights Under Federal Law
If you believe a health care provider or health plan has not protected your health information, you can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights, at hhs.gov/hipaa.
